7.24.2007: Wow, it's been a bit since the last update. Sorry for anyone I've left hanging! The Dress Grays I've put on hiatus until after Dragon*Con 2007. I've been slammed busy with so-called "Real Life," but costuming continues apace. New updates have been made to the Where to Get Things page-- HUGE shout-outs and thank yous to the Colonial Fleet for being an ever reliable source of info and links. Thanks to GotMaul and LostNCyber, there are new links and offerings for those who need patches or want to pick up convenient modding kits for BDUs. A small update today-- look for more as we get closer to Dragon*Con. If you sent along e-mail or a query but haven't received a response, please feel free to resend, especially if it's in regards to info I can post on the site! I'm working on updates, so if you have something: Send it in!
2.16.07: Coming Soon: Dress Grays... and a possible GALLERY! If you've used or contributed anything to this site over the past year since it's been active, please drop me an e-mail with a photo of you in your uniform. I'd like to keep a gallery of fan-created uniforms for others to be inspired by. Even if you ask me not to post the photo on the site, just knowing that the site has been helpful to you in some way would be awesome! Especially so if you've managed to puzzle out something that should be added, and have a visual of the results. And thank you to everyone who's written so far-- I do read all of the e-mail I receive, and appreciate all of the notes and additions that help build the site. See you all at the next 'Con!
10.9.2006: Though I loathe the term "Under Construction" with regards to web sites, this one is very much so. After a while the old "single page" approach to the site just got too unwieldy-- so I've broken it down into sub-pages. Hopefully this will make things easier to find and show me where I need to fill in gaps. If you have any suggestions, comments, questions, additions, corrections, etc., please drop me a line. If you're e-mailing me to nitpick, let me know that. If you have something that needs to go here, let me know that too!
Dragon*Con 2006 has come and gone-- and the costumes were a success! Although there are still several things that we want to tweak and fix, for the most part, things came off beautifully. Of course, as soon as we created the costumes they were obsolete; Jason and I have been scouring message boards in search of updated info and will post that as soon as we can confirm and nail down most of it. While there we met an Admin of BattlestarWiki, and a group of other BSG fans that we partied with (the Colonial Fleet), all of whom were completely awesome and amazingly cool people. Next year we're making plans to do something as a group, and make things even bigger and better than before.
Special Thank-You's to Admiral Gumby, the folks at the Dewbacks ASAP Board, and Spencerian and the folks at Battestarwiki.

For days and evenings other than the final Masquerade night, we wore undress-versions of BSG costuming:

September 8: The Aftermath, or "What I Learned and Will Make Better for Next Time."
Of course I'm kicking myself because so much research has already been done by the people at the Dewbacks site-- but at this point, I'm going to celebrate putting together the frackking costume in the first place! The Version 2.0 costumes will feature:Flat backs. The uniforms we made used the 4-part back construction.
Thinner suede. The thick stuff was tough to sew and took gluing down first.
Wool Crepe as the fabric, rather than the stuff we managed to wrangle.
Single-piece front construction. There's a dart over the pocket, not a seam.
Junior Officer trim will be closer to gray.
Better buttonhole construction. New high-rez photos point to something different than I'd thought.
Better fitting in the under-arm gusset. Argh. It was horrible, but we know better for next time...
And of course, with Lindsay embarking on Secret Project X, I expect nothing but military precision in lining up our guy-lines... (heh)
