At least, that's what I call them. These are the "staple" uniforms of the various officers in the Colonial Fleet-- Everyone from the Admiral down to Lieutenant (JG) wears one of these. The insignia and piping varies, which is why I tried to section things off into "Senior Officers" and "Junior Officers." The Junior Officers for the most part wear gray piping with changes in the insignia. The Senior Officers though have a bewildering array of piping colors, pins, insignia, etc.-- but fortunately there are people in places like www.battlestarwiki.com and the Dewbacks ASAP site that are dedicated to getting things right. For notes on how to actually make your own piping, check out the "How to Make Things" section of the site.

Another shot of the Admiral's coloar, buttons, piping, and pin insignia

As www.battlestarwiki.com points out, the piping for an Admiral is Gold with a white interior stripe.  The collar rank pins are similar to those of the Commander, but the sides are wider, and they appear to be multi-leveled, alternating between silver and gold..

2.16.2007: A recent e-mail from B.X.S. in response to the below question: "Hi! I read on one of the many blogs they didn't have an Admirals uniform in storage. Since the 12 colonies were destroyed uniforms - especially Flag uniforms - will be hard to come by."

(9.8.2006: New publicity photos raise a lot of questions. For example, are they just getting rid of the original gold/white piping for Admiral? Bill Adama is shown in the red and gold, but he's wearing Admiral's pins-- if anyone has more info, please contact me!)

12.18.2006: The larger "senior" wings are for pilots who meet certain flight qualifications-- it has very little to do with one's rank, but most likely has more to do with flight time and/or commendations as a pilot.

As www.battlestarwiki.com notes, the piping for a Commander is red with a gold interior stripe

9.8.2006: New publicity photos raise a lot of questions. See above for notes on the colors of piping.

9.8.2006: Mara Jade's Father on Dewbacks ASAP had this concept art image of commander's pins. Note the insane detailing on the starburst.

9.8.2006: The left-most image is from the new publicity shots, and comes from Lee Adama's collar.

According to www.battlestarwiki.com, all officers below the rank of Captain have the single white stripe-- "Junior Officers."

9.8.2006: The new Promo photos show Dee's piping to be made of gray FABRIC, NOT vinyl like the senior officers. I suppose this follows, since the little old ladies in the uniform sweatshop probably would have rebelled by now.

FLIGHT WINGS--

December 18, 2006: The larger "senior" wings are for pilots who meet certain flight qualifications-- it has very little to do with one's rank, but most likely has more to do with flight time and/or commendations as a pilot.

DUTY BLUES (ALL OFFICERS): Oct. 2: After close examination of the high-resolution promo shots, I've determined that the ladies' and men's jackets differ by at the very least, two very important front "princess" seams. The sleeves are 1-part sleeves, with the seam on the back of the sleeve.

From the looks of things, the "official" watch of BSG is Nixon, which primarily makes skate- and surf-boarding watches. The Duty Blues watch is the black/black Scout.
