(Mostly for the Duty Blues)
PATCHES:
|
|
|
| The promo photos show the patch as having some sort of texture to the purple background of the patch. Apparently it's a purple version of some of the same fabric used in the flightsuits-- Oct. 2: The fabric type is "Meteorite" and the color is "Muscovite"-- made by Sommers, and no longer in production. | Oct. 2: Initially, I believed that the Galactica patch was made of the same material as the flightsuits. However, there is a definite grain to the fabric, as this super-close zoomed in image shows. Without a swatch of the flightsuit fabric to do a comparison, I'm limited to supposition once more. |

While there's an ongoing argument about the patch diameter, this illustration shows the amount of suede clearance on each side of the patch.
Oct. 2: Current measurements have the patches at 3.5"

Completely unsatisfied with the patches that I can find online (but I'm just a strange perfectionist) I created files to embroider my own.
July 24, 2007: (Reposted from the Where to Get Things page) If you want as close to the "real deal" as you can get, and if GotMaul still has them: Get in touch with him and inquire after the BSG patches he ran on the Screen-Accurate SOMMMERS fabric. I worked on the files, then handed them over to DGasser to finish. I'm proud to have my name associated with them and will happily recommend them to everyone. A bit more than the PatchGeek patches, but the run of custom embroidery on the SOMMERS fabric wasn't cheap. However: Trust me. You'll think they're worth it.
FOOTWEAR:

High-resolution Season 3 promo shots from Scifi.com show off a lot of the details, such as the "mandarin" style cuff on the pants-- you can see not only the style of footwear, but the specific detailing of the pant cuffs. Rather than coming straight down over the boot, there's a construction detail there that we don't often get to see. A direct-straight-on view of the Viper Pilot footwear is here. A really large image of the Officer's footwear is here. To me they look like modified wrestling boots. Oct. 2: The line officers seem to wear the wrestling-boot spat combo, while the other officers wear tactical boots. Evidence is shown above. |
SIDEARMS:

| This is the grainiest and worst of the images-- but it does show the hardware that goes on the sidearm. I'm going to try to find a better image of this, as this one is pretty terrible. | If you want to assemble your own sidearm from a model kit, here's the link that Jason found: Season One Sidearm Model Kits |

BELT:

The belts seem to be your standard-issue metal-clip utility webbing belts-- you
can pick up the ones with plastic buckles in most Army/Navy Supply Stores. Note
that the jackets are tucked into the pants-- they don't hang loose like your
typical jacket. The pants are seamless flat-front pants, with the cuff
constructed so that the pant leg can lie cleanly over the boot. The belt buckles
seem to flip-flop around with regards to the material. In some photos they're
very matte, almost plastic-seeming; in others, they're clearly metal. On the
right is a metal belt buckle that you can probably pick up at a pet store; this
one is a heavy-duty nickel-silver (polished) buckle that is made for a 1"
webbing belt. Updated 9.18.2006: I've been told
that the belts are in fact plastic, as they're the "stealth" buckles.
The same buckles are used on the Viper flightsuits.
(The color has been altered, to show detail; don't go by what's shown here) |
