Clothes worn primarily for boozing and fighting. (The two main pursuits of off-duty personnel)

Oct. 2: The "racer front" is a custom alteration-- while you CAN reverse a racer-back tank top to service, in actuality the center is too narrow for most women to wear and have it look good. I'm currently working on a pattern. Additionally, the fabric is NOT ribbed-- which eliminates most retail racer-tanks. Note that in the image of Helo wearing just the tanks and the pants, the pants are Olive/Army green with a green webbing belt instead of the usual blue. In the episode, both men are wearing green pants instead of blue or black. And if you're REALLY feeling the pinch of cash on the costuming budget: In Pegasus, Chief Tyrol looks like he's wearing a plain gray sweatshirt with the Galactica patch attached to it.

While we tend to primarily see the dual-tank-top look, there is actually a long-sleeved top that goes with the BDU pants.

In this scaled-down shot of the Chief, you can clearly see the addition of clips on the pockets and cuffs. Also, note the suede shoulder material-- the same as the duty blues. In this image the top appears very gray, but I suspect it's green-- anyone who knows for certain, please drop me a line. I would tend to go with green, since that's what the rest of the "off duty" outfit pants happen to be.

July 24, 2007: It's been more or less confirmed that the off-duty garb is OD Green-- slight variations in color will of course occur, but in general if you can go with a slightly grayer version it's the one you want to shoot for. Propper is one manufacturer of BDUs, along with Tru-Spec: it's generally agreed that the Tru-Spec shirts are closer to cannon and require less modding.

For tips on modding the BDU tops, and a link to purchasing the most commonly used ones, see the Where to Get Things page.

BDUs come in two flavors-- a lighter summer fabric (I believe it's called "Rip Stop") and a heavier, more rugged cotton twill. From close-ups of this particular top, I am pretty sure that the pants fabric is also the lighter summer-weight rip-stop fabric.
